Facing Threat of Lawsuits, Orange County May Scrap Its Rural Boundary

Shareholder Becky Wilson was quoted in a July 10 Orlando Sentinel article examining Orange County’s potential repeal of its rural boundary and Vision 2050 growth plan.

The county is considering the move in response to legal threats tied to Senate Bill 180, a new state law that restricts local land-use regulations in areas affected by recent hurricanes.

Wilson offered insight into a possible legal strategy, suggesting the county could delay the implementation of Vision 2050 to avoid conflict with the new law.

“Senate Bill 180 is retroactive for those three hurricanes, but then it’s also prospective for any new hurricane, so it’s almost like you would be rolling back that effective date, just hoping for a season we didn’t have hurricanes,” Wilson told the Sentinel.
