Apartments Planned for E. Colonial Drive Near UCF
Shareholder Rebecca Wilson was quoted in a GrowthSpotter article published June 18, discussing the growing demand for student housing near the University of Central Florida.
Wilson represented New York-based developer Alpine Residential in its successful request to Orange County commissioners to redevelop a 400-unit apartment complex into a 2,400-bed student housing community at 11600 Mackay Blvd.
Speaking at a commission meeting in July, Wilson emphasized the importance of locating student housing close to campus to help alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
“UCF is right there, and it continues growing with students, and the students need some place to go closer to campus,” Wilson said. “Around UCF, we have a lot of traffic issues since these roads can’t be widened anymore. The best way to handle traffic issues is to put student housing where they have shuttles to get to UCF so that we’re not adding more cars onto these roads.”
The project is one of several large-scale student housing developments planned near UCF, which has an enrollment nearing 70,000 students.
