City of Orlando Announces Next City Council Meeting to be Conducted Virtually
On March 26, 2020, the City of Orlando announced that the next City Council meeting, which will take place on Monday, March 30th at 2 PM, will be “conducted virtually via an online platform.” This decision is part of the City’s larger effort to follow CDC guidelines regarding social distancing. Executive Order 2020-69, issued by Governor Ron DeSantis on March 20, explicitly allowed local governments to utilize teleconferencing technology to conduct local meetings. The announcement also provided details about how the City will receive public comments during the ongoing state of emergency:
“Written public comments can be emailed to cityclerk@orlando.gov; mailed to City Clerk, Public Comment, 400 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801; or dropped off to the 1st floor security station at City Hall. Comments received by 2 p.m. on Monday, March 30 will be read into the record during the City Council meeting and become part of the permanent record of the meeting. In addition, those wishing to provide comment in person must come to the City Hall Rotunda to be connected to the virtual meeting.”
