Lowndes Prosecutes Patent for SwiftPaws’ Innovative Pet Exercise Product

April 29, 2020

Lowndes has secured a patent for SwiftPaws Home, a safe lure coursing machine for pets that can be setup in a backyard or indoors. SwiftPaws Home can be seen in action and ordered at www.swiftpaws.com.

SwiftPaws Home is the flagship product of SwiftPaws, a Melbourne, Fla.-based health and wellness lifestyle brand that manufactures and markets pet products. The remote-controlled lure system can be setup in minutes and allows  up to 300 feet of chasing at speeds up to 30 mph.

Meghan Wolfgram, CEO and founder of SwiftPaws, attributes part of the company’s success to Groundswell Startups, the Melbourne-based business incubator that provides an invaluable network of mentors, local resources and business support services, including Lowndes.

The patent for SwiftPaws Home, U.S. Patent No. 10,609,904, was prosecuted by Lowndes attorney Stephen C. Thomas.

The patent prosecution process includes drafting and filing a formal patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and then working with the USPTO Examiners through an examination process to obtain patent protection for the owner in the form of an  issued patent.

Patents prevent a competitor from making, selling or using any product covered by the claims of the patent for a period of 20 years from the date of patent filing, and can be a very effective tool for erecting a barrier to competition.
