Orange County Adopts Two Development Incentive Efforts
By: Rebecca Wilson & McGregor Love
On July 7, 2020, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners adopted a Resolution implementing two incentive efforts aimed at “easing the economic burden of development” within the County. The Resolution’s stated goal is to “ensure that local business owners, developers, nonprofits and residents have the best opportunity to stay in business, create new businesses, or make necessary home improvements.”
The two incentive programs included in the Resolution are:
- An automatic 6-month extension of all building permits; and
- A building permit fee offset for all residential and commercial applications.
The automatic permit extension removes the notification requirement currently in effect under the State’s Executive Order 2020-51. The building permit fee offset program will be enabled for six months or until $10,000,000.00 is utilized. The permit fee offset program is limited to $100,000.00 per project.
