October 9, 2017
Orlando, FL – With family and friends by her side, Meredith E. Level, 56, real estate shareholder at Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, died peacefully on October 5, 2017 at 9:30 pm, after losing her very private battle with cancer.
Level was a valued member of the firm who served the firm and its clients with distinction. Level was Board Certified in Real Estate Law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education and focused her legal work on commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing and loan workouts. Over her 20 year career, she helped represent local, regional and national businesses as well as real estate investment companies, banking associations, and other retailers. Level closed hundreds of millions of dollars of properties including retail facilities and shopping centers, resort properties, franchise restaurants, senior living facilities, and other commercial properties.
In addition to her demanding legal practice, Level served as the firm’s Charitable Contributions Committee Chair since 2002, always raising her hand in service with unwavering commitment. Level organized hundreds of fundraising initiatives on behalf of the firm and in the community. She helped the firm raise approximately $100,000 annually for the Heart of Florida United Way, over $60,000 annually for United Arts of Central Florida, and over $150,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the past 15 years. Level also helped raise money and awareness for many charities throughout the Central Florida community, including Second Harvest, Jewish Family Services, Children’s Home Society, Women of Hope Holiday Drive, March of Dimes, The Red Cross, Lawyers for Literacy, Florida Bar Foundation and more.
Level believed the best investment we could make was the investment in our future leaders. As a Junior Achievement of Central Florida Board of Directors member since 2002, Level helped to launch the JA Academy for Leadership and Entrepreneurship at Oak Ridge High School, which involves volunteering in the classroom and mentoring individual students. In addition, Level teamed with the JA staff and other business volunteers to launch a finance virtual curriculum, which is a 20+ classroom learning module and 5-part computer simulation to teach budgeting, investing, setting financial goals and other practical skills to 9th grade students at the JA Academy. Level was honored with the Junior Achievement Bronze Leadership Award which honors volunteer excellence.
Level was the past president of Florida Executive Women, a member of the Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers (and past board member), an active community volunteer involved with the Women’s Leadership Council with Heart of Florida United Way, and many other local cultural and human services organizations. Level was honored with the “Leader in the Law" award by the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. She was also honored with the “Women of Distinction Award” during the Annual Women of Distinction Gala hosted by the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council. She also served as vice chairperson of the Florida Bar Real Estate Certification Committee.
