Pro Bono

Contributing to the local community has been an essential part of life at our firm since our inception. We believe that every successful lawyer should be involved in community service and pro bono activities. Our attorneys have provided free legal services in a number of circumstances, including:

  • Serving as guardian ad litems for minors who have allegedly been the victims of abuse or neglect. Our attorneys act as advocates for these children, who are often infants, interface with the child protective service agencies in an attempt to allow implementation of a reunification plan, and address issues relating to and arising from a termination of parental rights.
  • Assisting a variety of persons in disputes with landlords regarding security deposits, grounds for termination of leases, and the habitability of leased premises. Many of these cases are mediated or informally resolved, but our lawyers have litigated some of these disputes on behalf of the tenants.
  • Participating in a pretrial diversion program for youths called "Teen Court." The program allows youths arrested for non-violent misdemeanors to avoid adjudication by allowing themselves to be judged by their peers and participate in the Teen Court program and community service. Our lawyers serve as judges and jury consultants during these cases administered by the Juvenile Court system.
  • Representing indigent people who needed to obtain a divorce. A number of these cases, while often not involving significant marital assets, do often have complex custody and visitation issues that require a judge's determination after a trial.
  • Assisting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando, Inc. in clearing land titles on properties the organization acquired via tax deed sales or by donation, which properties Habitat has used to build homes to sell to persons who would not otherwise be able to realize the dream of home ownership.
